Burnley 1-0 Reading

Substitute Robbie Blake's late strike gave Burnley victory in a tight encounter with Reading at Turf Moor.

Blake evaded a pack of Reading defenders to beat Marcus Hahnemann from the edge of the area after 81 minutes.

Reading will feel hard done by, with Kevin Doyle, Andre Bikey and Jimmy Kebe all being denied by the woodwork.

Burnley keeper Brian Jensen also excelled, while Reading were fortunate to survive a desperate goalmouth scramble before Blake struck.

Burnley boss Owen Coyle on what he called their best display of the season:

"I've no doubt about it, given all that went on, the circumstances before the game and even during it.

"It just summed up everything I know about that group of players, the desire and the spirit they have for each other and how hard they are willing to work.

"They want to do well for themselves and for the football club."

Reading boss Steve Coppell on Burnley keeper Brian Jensen:

"He was terrific and made a couple of great saves. If the goal had been a couple of inches wider, it'd have been a comfortable game for us.

"Coming in with nothing from an away display like that, we're disappointed.

"If we continue to play and create as many chances as we did tonight then we'll be all right."
