Nottm Forest 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff's goal hero Ross McCormack goes on a run
Ross McCormack was a bargain 110,000 summer buy from Motherwell

Ross McCormack's 10th goal this season fired Cardiff City up to fourth in the Championship and piled more misery on bottom club Nottingham Forest.

The Scottish striker scored his sixth penalty this term after Stephen McPhail had been fouled by Lewis McGugan.

Forest, though, could have taken a sixth minute lead but Joe Garner's shot from McGugan's knock-down hit the post.

Jay Bothroyd missed two volley chances for Cardiff but his strike-partner McCormack saved his blushes.

Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood:
"It was real solid performance by us but we gave them an opportunity after an impetuous challenge.

"I thoroughly enjoyed what we did today and if you can take a reward from it then it would almost be the perfect game.

"But it's not so there's obviously work that to be done but I've got no criticism of the players - it is hard to fathom out how we got defeated

"However, we have given away another penalty kick away and that is the only chance we've really afforded them."

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones said:
"We had to grind out a result because of the circumstances Forest are in so we knew we'd have fight and scrap for everything - and we did that.

"We didn't play as well as we'd like but you must give Forest credit due to the position they're in in the division

"However, if you're not playing as well you think should be but take maximum points, you'll take it."
