Swansea 1-1 Derby

Ashley Williams
Ashley Williams rescued Swansea with a strong header

Swansea denied Derby their first away league win in 18 months after coming from behind in their Championship clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Derby target Ferrie Bodde shone for Swansea during a tight first-half but was unable to inspire a breakthrough.

Stephen Pearson broke the deadlock for Derby on 63 minutes when he blasted home Nathan Ellington's cross.

But the Swans laid into the Rams and Ashley Williams rose highest to head Jordi Gomes' corner into the net.

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez:
"I consider that a very good performance.

"Today it seemed like things were not going our way, but the performance overall was very impressive.

"I'm sure Derby are going to go on a big run. We are still full of volume, but lacking in a bit of sharpness.

"There are certain things we need to improve on and the last thing we are going to get is sharpness."

Derby manager Paul Jewell:
"It was important to get something out of the game. It showed we are slowly moving in the right direction.

"Swansea are a good side. We couldn't get near them in the first half, but we got a foothold on the game.

"Stephen Pearson's goal was a terrific goal from a great move.

"I thought Swansea played well but, for all the possession they had, they didn't really work (goalkeeper) Roy Carroll.

"To concede the way we did from a corner is frustrating. We switch off at vital times and it ultimately cost us two points tonight."
