Norwich 1-0 Sheff Utd

Lee Croft's late strike secured a first home win of the season for Norwich.

Croft showed great composure to slot home a low injury-time shot after being set up by Wes Hoolahan.

Darel Russell was twice denied by Blades keeper Paddy Kenny in the first half and Wes Hoolahan and Jamie Cureton also went close.

Norwich keeper David Marshall made a couple of fine saves from Stephen Quinn and Gary Speed and also made a stunning late save from Danny Webber.

Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"I'm really pleased for Lee Croft, we've spent so much time with him at the training ground that when he comes inside to swing that left foot, let it go.

"If he ends up hitting the corner flag, so what? At least you've attempted to do the right thing.

"In professional football that's almost the perfect result; clean sheet, score a goal, win 1-0, thank you very much."

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell:

"It should have been over by half-time but if you don't take chances there is always a risk you'll get punished - that's what happened.

"It goes without saying that we're bitterly disappointed to come away with nothing but credit to Norwich for taking their chance when it came.

"They have taught us a valuable lesson today."
