Sheff Wed 2-0 Watford

Goals from Marcus Tudgay and Tommy Spurr helped Sheffield Wednesday into the Championship top six as they cruised to victory over Watford.

Tudgay calmly wrong-footed Mart Poom from 10 yards in the 22nd minute after a defensive mix-up from the visitors.

Watford's best chance came just before half-time when Leigh Bromby miscued from Lee Williamson's corner.

And pacy left-back Spurr doubled The Owls' lead in the 55th minute after finishing in style from 18 yards.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:

"The players deserve every credit. I thought the performance was very professional and very well organised.

"Once we got that first goal, I thought we took a grip on the game.

"Our home form has been average over many years so I'm pleased that we're unbeaten in the league at home this season."

Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd:

"We were well beaten and looked like a very average side.

"We looked like strangers and it's very rare that a Watford side plays as bad as that.

"They out-scrapped us in every department and you have to give credit where credit's due.

"We didn't have enough to change the tempo and quieten the Hillsborough crowd."
