Blackpool 0-1 Bristol City

Substitute Steve Brooker stole the points for Bristol City with a last-gasp winner to stun Blackpool.

Brooker replaced Dele Adebola on 80 minutes and the move paid dividends as he turned sharply to fire in a fierce left-foot shot.

City's 2.5m capture Nicky Maynard was denied a debut goal by a sharp save from Paul Rachubka.

Ben Burgess twice went close for Blackpool, volleying over from 12 yards and then placing a header just over.

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson:
"To lose any game in the last minute is always going to be disappointing.

"Many people have us down as relegation certainties and I am sure that will galvanise my players even more.

"We played ever so well and created a lot of chances against a side which was one game away from the Premier League last season.

"We were the side that got the ball down on the deck and passed it around."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson on Steve Brooker's late strike:
"It was a perfect result and scoring in the 90th minute is the best time to score.

"Blackpool at home always is good opposition and we had to work hard, throwing ourselves in front of things.

"A team at home on the first day of the season is always going to chuck everything at you. They were out to impress the crowd.

"We hung on in there and I needed to change the mentality a bit at half-time. It livened us up a bit and got us into the other half.

"Brooks came on and we told him he'd get one chance, so he had to be ready for it. It was a great finish."
