Sheff Utd 2-2 Sheff Wed

James Beattie earned Sheffield United a derby draw against Sheffield Wednesday with a stunning late free-kick.

The Owls looked set for their first league double over the Blades in 94 years with Adam Bolder heading the opener and then tapping in a second.

But Richard Wood's own goal threw United a deserved lifeline.

And Beattie thundered home a curling 85th minute free-kick from 30 yards to condemn Brian Laws' relegation battlers to a sixth successive draw.

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell:
"It was two points tossed away being brutally honest, but from being 2-0 down it's a point gained.

"It was a fantastic game, I felt we dominated all the early stages, their goal came against the run of play and it gave them confidence.

"In the second half we dominated again and conceded another sloppy goal. But you've got to give the lads credit."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:
"The first thought that came into my mind was disappointment. When you're 2-0 up it's shut-up shop time.

"But I've got to say there are some positives. I've got to give credit to the players, they were outstanding.

"I'm gutted for them because they deserved three points which would have catapulted us up the league."
