Cardiff slipped further down the table after squandering a first-half lead in a draw against Scunthorpe.
Stephen McPhail had given the Bluebirds the lead on 37 minutes when he latched on to Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink's cross.
But the visitors levelled the scores 10 minutes after the interval when Cardiff failed to clear Kevan Hurst's cross and Jim Goodwin fired home from 12 yards.
Cardiff were denied the three points when Cleveland Taylor's header denied Darren Purse the winner on 80 minutes.
Cardiff boss Dave Jones:
"We looked very nervous and weren't playing as fluently as we can although all the players are desperate to do well for the fans.
"We seem to get punished for every mistake right now but should have cut out the cross that led to their goal.
"The older players must draw on their experiences to see us through."
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins:
"We gave a good account of ourselves.
"We're very resolute and even when we went a goal down had a loss a of belief in ourselves.
"There are no superstars at our club, it is a team game and we all look for each other."
