Alan McCormack climbed off the bench to throw 10-man Southend a relegation lifeline with a last-gasp equaliser against Leicester at Roots Hall.
The Foxes took the lead when Iain Hume headed in Levi Porter's cross but Freddy Eastwood, who had gone close earlier, levelled with a solo effort.
Southend's Ritchie Foran then saw red for a second booking and Hume bundled in what looked like the winner.
However, in the dying minutes McCormack pounced on a loose ball to blast home.
Southend boss Steve Tilson:
"I was disappointed with their first goal from a free header. I felt we had to be braver on the ball.
"But in the second half I thought we were the only team in it. I couldn't ask for anymore, two or three of my lads couldn't even run back at the end.
"The belief and spirit is still there and that showed today."
Leicester boss Rob Kelly:
"If we'd come in at 2-0 the game's dead really.
"But credit to Southend, they gave it a right go and never wilted. We didn't play as well as we can, the passing was a bit awry and we were sloppy.
"Both teams kept at it and it was just the sort of game you're going to get at this stage. We still want to collect as many points as we can."
