A Robbie Blake double inspired Leeds to a comfortable victory over Colchester.
Dennis Wise's side scored a deserved opener after 36 minutes when Blake fired home from 20 yards.
Colchester's hopes of getting back in the game suffered a blow early in the second half when Richard Cresswell headed in Eddie Lewis' perfect cross.
Blake applied the coup de grace with a 52nd minute penalty after John White fouled Cresswell, while Johnnie Jackson hit the post late on for Colchester.
Leeds manager Dennis Wise on Robbie Blake:
"Since I came here, Robbie has been our little gem. He put in a good shift again, he was fantastic.
"I believe in him, Gus Poyet believes in him and the team believes in him, he's got so much ability. He needs confidence and has been doing great.
"He finds places that other players can't find and he can hurt teams from there. That's what we want him to do."
Colchester boss Geraint Williams:
"That's our worst performance of the season so far.
"The effort was there but for the first time this season we weren't quite at the races and we didn't perform.
"We had too many players off form today. The quality wasn't quite there and you'll get punished in this division when that happens."
