Barnsley 3-2 Leeds
A stunning late strike from Brian Howard secured Barnsley's first win in seven games as they came from behind to beat Yorkshire rivals Leeds.

The Tykes took the lead against the run of play when Martin Devaney lashed in from 15 yards after a defensive mix up.

But Leeds levelled through Shaun Derry, who met Robbie Blake's cross with a fierce header and then Blake turned scorer when he smased in a half-volley.

But Michael McIndoe's drive restored parity before Howard curled the winner.

  • Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie:
"We hope it's the kick-start to our season but we've got two very difficult away games on the bounce now. We're not getting carried away.

"It was a win we really needed and let's just hope we can do something on the back of it.

"We needed three points. It was a game we needed to win just as much as they did.

  • Leeds manager Dennis Wise:
"I was well aware of the job when I came here and it doesn't faze me too much to be honest. We know it's a difficult job, and we know these players are lacking a lot of confidence.

"Also, we know we need some fresh faces - that's something we said all along. But at the present moment trying to get them is very difficult.

"Bringing in new faces gives the place a lift and I think that is important. I think the current players have got into a rut, and I think now is the right time to bring some faces in to give competition."
