Leicester held on for a draw despite playing 79 minutes with 10 men to preserve Rob Kelly's unbeaten record in charge of the club.
Matt Fryatt missed a header before Iain Hume put Leicester in front with a strike from 12 yards.
Robbie Blake equalised for Leeds from the penalty spot after Patrick McCarthy fouled Rob Hulse with a challenge that led to his dismissal.
Stephen Hughes and Hume went close for Leicester and Paul Butler for Leeds.
Leicester manager Rob Kelly:
"We competed for 80 minutes with just 10 men and it was great credit to our
players and supporters that they both kept going so well.
"But when backs are against the wall, that is the time you can see the true
worth of people.
"Performances like this reinforce the belief that we can get out of trouble."
Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell:
"I'm disappointed because we weren't quite at it and there was a spark missing.
"We had enough possession to see them off, but it just didn't happen.
"I tried freshening it up and even had on four strikers, but we just weren't inventive enough. We have to take the criticism for not seeing them off."
