Cardiff 1-0 Hull
Cameron Jerome celebrates his goal
Jerome's 22nd-minute strike proved to be decisive
Cameron Jerome ended a three-game goalless streak to earn Cardiff City three points at Ninian Park.

The 19-year-old striker bagged his 15th league goal of the season in the 22nd minute after Darren Purse headed Jason Koumas' left-wing cross into his path.

The England Under-21 front man made no mistake toe-poking into an empty net.

Leon Cort responded immediately but his goal was ruled offside, while Jon Parkin hit the post and Cardiff keeper Neil Alexander made some fine saves.

  • Cardiff manager Dave Jones:
"I gave Neil Alexander the option of missing the match [after a family bereavement] but he said he wanted to play.

"He made great saves in both halves but I don't know how he kept out Jon Parkin's effort just after we had taken the lead, perhaps it should go down as poor finishing.

"In the second half they threw long balls into the box but we dealt with it very well.

"We are only three points off the play-offs but we must keep gathering the points to make it tough for clubs above us."

  • Hull manager Peter Taylor:
"I think we deserved at least a point, particularly with the second-half chances we made.

"We were second best in the first half but I still cannot believe our performance after the interval didn't bring us at least one goal.

"I think we should have had a penalty instead of a free-kick on the edge of the box, I'll watch the video with interest."
