Norwich 1-2 Ipswich
Danny Haynes
Haynes celebrates with Fabian Wilnis after Town's winner
Ipswich struck a controversial late winner to take the honours in the East Anglian derby at Norwich.

Danny Haynes appeared to use his hand to bundle the ball in with two minutes left, although the goal was officially given as an own goal by Gary Doherty.

City's on-loan striker Jonatan Johansson had chipped Town keeper Lewis Price for the opener on 33 minutes.

Jimmy Juan equalised five minutes later from a 25-yard free-kick, deflected off the head of Johansson.

Ipswich midfielder Matt Richards had earlier hit the post with a volley on the edge of the area just before Norwich took the lead.

And the hosts struck the woodwork too as they went in search of a winner after the break.

Johansson nearly toe-poked Norwich in front on 75 minutes when his instinctive first-time effort rebounded off the post from Paul McVeigh's over-head kick.

Ipswich looked more likely to snatch a winner and had a penalty appeal turned down before Haynes - or Doherty - grabbed the dramatic winner.

  • Ipswich boss Joe Royle:
"Victory keeps us in with a chance of making the top six. "It is a big ask and we need to go on a long run but it is important that we've started turning draws into wins. "We had to win this game and no one can deny that we didn't deserve to win it."

  • Norwich manager Nigel Worthington:
"I can understand their frustrations (regarding the 150 City fans that stayed behind after the game to vent their anger). "It takes strong people, strong minds to come through and I will stand tall. "Everyone has a goal in life and mine is to win games for Norwich and to be here for a long time."
