Luton 1-2 Watford
Darius Henderson and Malky Mackay were on the scoresheet for Watford - but the Hornets had to survive a valiant Luton fightback to earn all three points.

Marlon King laid the ball off for Henderson to score from the edge of the box, before Mackay touched home Anthony McNamee's inswinging free-kick.

Luton pulled a goal back when Carlos Edwards struck from 18 yards.

Ben Foster made two good saves for Watford, who had Ashley Young red carded for kicking out at Kevin Foley.

  • Luton manager Mike Newell:
"I cannot use the word 'cheating' because it will land me in hot water, but we have an honest bunch of players here.

"I would not have my players rolling around on the pitch if they were not injured.

"When there is time-wasting it is hard to get momentum going. If that's the way teams want to play it is not going to bring back the crowds."

  • Watford manager manager Adrian Boothroyd:
"We are learning to manage games, and the best teams are the ones who know how to manage games.

"It was a good win, but it wasn't a particularly good performance.

"We needed this result, because it gives us momentum. However, we have a lot of work to get through on the training ground."
