Jonathan Douglas' double gave Leeds victory over Yorkshire rivals Hull.
Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill denied Robbie Blake just before the half-hour with a superb save while Craig Fagan's shot then hit the bar for Hull.
But on the stroke of half-time Blake controlled a long ball from Matthew Kilgallon and found Douglas, who stroked home a low, diagonal finish.
On 53 minutes Richard Creswell hit the post for Leeds and soon after Douglas nodded in his second from close range.
Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell said: "It's an old adage but you take one game at a time. We dealt with Stoke and then we focused on dealing with Hull here.
"That's what we've got to do and we shall see where we end up. Since June, 12 new players have come to the club and it takes time to build.
"But I felt that we would improve in the second half of the season."
Hull manager Peter Taylor jokes that Boaz Myhill's error may put off suitors Wigan: "If Wigan are listening, then yes, it was a mistake. He's got to get more on it than what he did, or he's got to stay where he is.
"That's where the second goal was frustrating because I thought we did very well in the first half.
"Maybe Leeds took confidence from that after the break."
