He had already gone close when Tom Huddlestone's shot hit the bar and fell to Ganea who saw his effort pushed back on to the crossbar by Neil Sullivan.
But Ganea was not to be denied, netting in Wolves' next attack when he slotted home from Ki-Hyeon Seol's through-ball.
Leeds competed well but struggled to create chances and their hopes were all but ended when they had Simon Walton sent off for a second booking late on.
Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell:
"I'm disappointed with the decision and think a lot of people were surprised by it.
"It seemed harsh and the kid is absolutely distraught. He's proud to be a Leeds player and takes it to heart.
"I was looking for a response and we looked a good side in the first half but the football was not as incisive as it might have been."
