QPR 1-1 Rotherham
Rotherham held on for a draw against newly-promoted QPR thanks to a stunning late save from keeper Mike Pollitt.

Pollitt pulled off a fingertip stop at full stretch to deny Kevin Gallen an 86th-minute winner.

Gareth Ainsworth put the home side ahead on five minutes, heading home Richard Johnson's left-wing cross as Rotherham appealed for offside in vain.

But debutant Paul Shaw took advantage of some slack Rangers defending in the 16th minute to nod in the equaliser.

  • QPR manager Ian Holloway:
"Gareth Ainsworth gives me the battering ram effect. He's the most physical winger I've ever seen and it was a decent goal.

"It was a big day for us and it was very, very hot out there, over 100 degrees at pitch level, and obviously that's going to effect it."

"Our fans are very expectant and that's got to stop straight away - it will take a while for the boys to find their feet."

  • Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore:
"The heat was unbelievable - you wouldn't put a dog out in that let alone the players.

"The game could have gone either way.

"We allowed them a free header after a misunderstanding for the opening goal and the keeper made a wonderful save at the end but I thought we finished the match strongly."
