Andy Reid struck the solitary goal before being sent off as Nottingham Forest beat Wolves at the City Ground.
The Republic of Ireland international cut in from the left and blasted into the top corner just before the break.
But he was sent off for a foul on Kevin Cooper that led to a penalty, which Shaun Newton saw saved by Paul Gerrard.
Gerrard had denied Kenny Miller twice early in the match and 10-man Forest held on well to leave the pressure mounting on Wolves boss Dave Jones.
Wolves manager Dave Jones insists he will carry on at the club despite his side's defeat.
Jones is under pressure after chief executive Jez Moxey said he was "sick to the stomach" after the club's poor start to the season.
"We're in a results business. If people think someone else can get better results then that is out of my hands.
"All I can do is come to work, get my head down, and I expect my players to do the same.
Forest boss Joe Kinnear thought his side should have scored more goals.
"We passed it well, worked hard for one another, created gilt-edged chances but didn't take them. It's been like that all season," he said.
Kinnear will lose Andy Reid after he was sent off for fouling Kevin Cooper.
"Thankfully it will only be one match. The ref said it was a mistimed tackle. Now everyone can see why I rate him so highly," said the Forest boss.
