Crewe 1-3 Norwich
Norwich striker Iwan Roberts
Roberts marked his final game for Norwich with two goals
Norwich legend Iwan Roberts marked his final game for the club after seven years with two goals in another win.

Craig Fleming had headed in Phil Mulryne's cross to put City ahead before Roberts converted Darren Huckerby's cross for the second.

Dean Ashton, who earlier hit the post, replied when his shot squirmed in under Robert Green but Roberts secured the victory from a twice-taken penalty.

Roberts leaves The Canaries with 96 goals from 306 appearances.

Norwich made a confident start and 14-goal Huckerby, the First Division's player of the season, miscued a shot wide in the third minute.

Damien Francis, with three goals in his last four games, should have added to that tally when a neat Roberts knockdown put him through on goal, but he fired wide.

Crewe went close again to taking the lead in the 23rd minute when Ashton's effort was pushed onto a post by Green.

Mulryne saw a 25-yard curler saved by on-loan goalkeeper Ben Williams before playing a major part in the opener for Fleming.

Roberts then got his wish as he added number two before Gary Holt twice saw shots tipped round the post by Williams.

Veteran striker Roberts was handed an excellent chance to double his tally 10 minutes into the second half but Williams pulled off a fine save to keep out his header.

Ashton continued to offer Crewe some hope of getting a goal back and saw a fine drive tipped round the post by Green, who also thwarted Steve Jones.

However, Ashton was not to be denied and with eight minutes left he got the goal he deserved when his 25-yard shot was fumbled by Green, who watched in despair as the ball trickled over the line.

But the script was written for Roberts, who just had to have the final word by firing home the spot-kick after Anthony Tonkin fouled Leon McKenzie.

It means Norwich ended their championship season with eight wins in their last nine matches.
