Langley put Cardiff ahead with a penalty
|
Substitutes Paul Parry and Andy Campbell turned the game for Cardiff in a tight match at Ninian Park.
Moments after their 70th-minute introduction, Campbell was brought down in the box by Mark McGregor as he went for Parry's cross.
Richard Langley nervelessly slotted the penalty past Brian Jensen.
With 10 minutes left, the Bluebirds broke from defence, John Robinson and Parry fed Campbell, and he slid his shot past Jensen into the far corner.
Cardiff still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the play-offs, while Burnley are left teetering above the relegation zone.
Lennie Lawrence's men made the slightly better start with Rob Earnshaw firing
wide from a Richard Langley cross with just over two minutes gone.
But Burnley, and their lone forward Robbie Blake in particular, also looked a
threat with the striker drawing a fine save from Martyn Margetson in the eighth
minute which the goalkeeper pushed out for a corner.
McGregor went close with a header from Blake's corner, before Jensen was shown the yellow card for a 17th-minute foul outside the penalty area on Alan Lee.
Willie Boland curled the resultant free-kick over the target.
Rob Earnshaw, Richard Chaplow, Langley and Graham Branch all failed with chances before the break.
The second period began with Cardiff on the front foot, with Robinson, Earnshaw and Lee all having chances.
But the game was slipping away until Lawrence made his inspired double substitution for the Bluebirds to end on a high.
