Cardiff's Joel McAnuff challenges Andy Reid of Nottingham Forest
|
Nottingham Forest were frustrated by battling Cardiff as they continued their woeful start to the Championship.
Alan Lee forced Paul Gerrard to save as Cardiff began well while Kris Commons' drive was parried at the other end.
Marlon King hit the side-netting, David Johnson mis-kicked and Andy Impey's cross was volleyed acrobatically over by King as Forest went forward.
Jon Hjelde blocked another Lee shot as Cardiff pressed, before Johnson blazed hopelessly over with the goal gaping.
Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear
"I'm disappointed not to have won that game because we created enough chances but didn't get what we deserved - that's been the story of our season so far.
"We murdered Cardiff today but because we were desperate to get that first win you could see that little hint of desperation creeping into the final pass.
"At the other end, Cardiff barely managed to get the ball into our box and I can't really remember (Forest goalkeeper) Paul Gerrard having very much to do at all."
Cardiff City manager Lennie Lawrence
"That was our best performance of the season so far, that's not saying much but we kept our first clean sheet in heaven knows how long.
"We defended better as a unit, there were very few unforced errors and we survived losing the keeper midway through the first half with 10 stitches to his
head.
"It was just unfortunate, because Tony Warner was down on the deck when David Johnson slid in and just cracked him with his knee."
