Sunderland 1-1 Burnley
Kevin Kyle scored his first goal in eight games - but Sunderland had to settle for a point after Burnley striker Ian Moore's leveller.

Burnley deserved a point after Robbie Blake and Moore struck the woodwork before the latter scored the first opposition goal at The Stadium of Light in more than seven hours.

Kyle had earlier poked home from close range just six minutes before the break to put Sunderland ahead.

Sunderland dominated the opening exchanges and Jensen was at full stretch to save Kyle's header after a precision cross from Alan Quinn.

Burnley eventually came to life after 15 minutes. In-form Blake, having scored in his last two games, forced Mart Poom into a smart stop after unleashing a shot from the edge of the area.

But then the woodwork saved Sunderland moments later, and again, it came from the boot of livewire striker Blake, who struck the crossbar with a fierce shot from the right side of the box.

Sunderland's reaction was a positive one. They pressed through Colin Healy and his strike on goal on 25 minutes was well stopped by Jensen. Then Michael Proctor fired in a shot, but the Burnley keeper was again alert.

Downing and Moore then traded shots that forced saves, before the breakthrough came for Sunderland on 39 minutes. Proctor crossed from the right and Kyle was there to force the ball home.

It was not until the hour-mark that either keeper made another save, when Jensen pushed away a rasping long-ranger from Healy.

Burnley replaced Luke Chadwick with Paul Weller on 66 minutes and moments later he had fashioned an equaliser for the visitors.

The substitute flashed a dangerous ball across the face of the Sunderland goal and Moore was there to bundle the ball into the net at the second attempt.

Both sides then went in search of a winner. Blake testing Poom again, before Jeff Whitley's right-footed drive was held by Jensen.

Marcus Stewart was introduced from the bench for the remaining quarter of an hour, and he almost grabbed the winner, heading over nine minutes from time, before forcing Jensen into a last-gasp save as Burnley held firm.
