Stuart McCall came back to haunt former club Bradford as his goal gave Sheffield United victory in the Yorkshire derby.
The veteran midfielder, who enjoyed two spells at Valley Parade, scored the winner on 54 minutes to lift Blades top of Division One.
Dean Windass, released by the Blades in the summer, had opened the scoring on 27 minutes - ending a run of 18 games without a goal.
But his afternoon was later to turn sour when he was sent-off.
Before then, though, Windass' goal was equalised by Peter Ndlovu, with a deadly strike from the edge of the area.
Windass had already gone close twice when he made the breakthrough - smashing a low drive into the bottom right-hand corner after good work by Nicky Summerbee.
City barely had time to celebrate before ex-Bantam Ashley Ward found Ndlovu who curled the ball past the despairing dive of Marlon Beresford.
The second half began in entertaining fashion before McCall struck the winning goal - squeezing a side-foot effort past Beresford after a scramble in the penalty area.
McCall refused to celebrate in front of the fans that had once sung his name.
Windass almost grabbed a leveller for Bradford but instead he finished the game in despair, sent-off in the dying seconds for a lunge at Michael
