Leicester City edged closer to the Premiership after taking maximum points from Midlands rivals Coventy at Highfield Road.
Billy McKinlay was a hero at both ends of the park after first clearing a Mo Konjic header of the line early in the first-half.
And it was the Scotsman who fired a powerful strike to put Leicester ahead and notch up his first goal for the club.
James Scowcroft ensured Leicester went home with the points when he lashed Callum Davidson's cross past keeper Morten Hyldgaard after 68 minutes.
Sky Blues substitute Matt Jansen pulled a goal back for the hosts within 60 seconds
of his introduction but an experimental Coventry side could not find an equaliser.
It did not take long for tensions to rise and Coventy player-manager Gary McAllister was furious when his side were denied a penalty after Gerry Taggart tangled with Jay Bothroyd.
John Eustace's resulting indirect free-kick was deflected wide for a corner which Konjic met with a flying header.
But with Leicester keeper Ian Walker rooted, McKinlay came to the rescue by heading
clear on the goalline.
Despite an early flurry both sides found it difficult to create goalscoring chance until the game suddenly burst into life three minutes into the second half.
McKinlay picked his spot from 25 yards and then speared a drive into the top right of Hyldgaard's net after 48 minutes.
And almost 20 minutes later Scowcroft picked up Davidson's cross from the left-wing and blasted the ball home via the chest of defender Dean Gordon.
Leicester looked unsteady on their feet two minutes later when Jansen, on loan from Blackburn Rovers, popped up to convert McAllister's supply to the back post.
The Scottish boss tried to rally his side and threatened late on but his long-range free-kick drifted wide.
