Bradford 0-1 Brighton

Striker Bobby Zamora scored the only goal of the game as Brighton moved off the bottom of the Division One table at Valley Parade.

The striker has now scored four in his last five games and his recent run of form has given Steve Coppell's team hope of avoiding relegation.

The win also means Brighton have now won successive games for the first time this season.

The first chance of an entertaining opening half fell to Kerry Mayo, but his tame shot allowed Bradford goalkeeper Aidan Davison to make a fairly comfortable save.

Ben Roberts, Davison's opposite number, had to show considerably sharper reflexes shortly after to deny Ashley Ward's close-range header.

Zamora scored the game's only goal after 28 minutes, although the referee consulted his assistant before concluding that the striker's header had crossed the line.

The in-form striker almost doubled Brighton's tally before the break, but his well struck half-volley just missed the target.

Bradford substitute Simon Francis hit the woodwork in the second half and both Andy Gray and Peter Atherton went close for the home team.

But Brighton continued to threaten on the break and Davison needed to be at his agile best to deny both Gary Hart and Zamora.

Bradford: Davison, Uhlenbeek, Bower, Molenaar, Jacobs, Jorgensen, Standing, Atherton, Cadamarteri, Gray, Ward. Subs: Walsh, Francis, Lee, Ekoku, Forrest.

Brighton: Roberts, Watson, Ingimarsson, Cullip, Blackwell, Mayo, Carpenter, Brooker, Rodger, Hart, Zamora. Subs: Butters, Oatway, Packham, Barrett, Piercy.

Referee: G Salisbury (Lancashire)
