Coventry 2-0 Reading

On-loan duo Craig Hignett and Richie Partridge both scored as Coventry registered their fourth successive win.

Hignett made the breakthrough with his second goal of the season when he got on the end of Partridge's cross from the left to head the ball past Marcus Hahnemann.

And Partridge, on loan from Liverpool, made it 2-0 with a superb solo goal after 52 minutes.

He picked the ball up on the halfway line and beat three men before curling a superb shot past Hahnemann.

Reading have now lost three consecutive games to teams around them in the table without scoring a single goal.

Reading were hardly an attacking force in the first half - Ricky Newman's header, saved by Morten Hyldgaard with more than 30 minutes gone, was their first effort on target.

They were without top striker Nicky Forster because of a hamstring injury, and the recalled Jamie Cureton was unable to make an impact.

The club's joint-leading scorer struck a 20-yarder wide with his first sight of goal, but gave the home defence few problems afterwards.

Reading boss Alan Pardew introduced strikers Nathan Tyson and Darius Henderson after an hour in an attempt to change the course of the game, but there was no way back for his side.

Tyson missed the target when a chance fell to him and shortly after he tried his luck with a 25-yarder but it flew over the crossbar.

In a scrappy last half-hour Coventry held the visitors at bay and at the other end Hignett hit a 20-yard shot which Hahnemann was able to keep out.
