Millwall 1-1 Wolves

Play-off chasers Wolves were left to rue missed chances after being held to a draw at Millwall.

Dave Jones's side had the better of an entertaining contest, but squandered a host of second-half opportunities and remain just outside the top six.

The home side started the match brightly, but fell behind against the run of play after a neat finish by Wolves winger Mark Kennedy.

The Republic of Ireland star, who started his career with the Lions, lifted the ball over the advancing Tony Warner to give the visitors a fifth-minute lead.

Steve Claridge almost responded for Millwall five minutes later, but his effort was parried by Wolves keeper Matt Murray.

On-loan Carlton Cole then nearly doubled the away side's lead on 18 minutes, but his right-footed effort from 20 yards flew just past the left-hand post.

Millwall upped the tempo towards the interval, and Robbie Ryan was extremely unlucky to see his powerful shot blocked for a corner.

The Lions did get their leveller when Andy Roberts struck two minutes before the break.

Sturridge miss

The midfielder smashed an unstoppable left-footed volley from the edge of the area to give Mark McGhee's side a deserved equaliser.

Millwall again came out firing on all cylinders at the start of the second half, and Steven Reid should have done better when he fired over the bar from a Dennis Wise corner.

Midfielder Paul Ifill then saw his left-footed shot blocked by Wolves centre-back Joleon Lescott on 49 minutes as the away side looked shaky.

They finally fashioned their first attack of the second period when Alex Rae saw his first shot blocked by Stuart Nethercott, and his second brilliantly saved by Warner.

Wolves started to take control of the match and three minutes later Rae turned provider, crossing for striker Dean Sturridge who steered wide from inside the box.

Paul Ince and Kennedy then miscued within a minute of each other with 10 minutes left, before Scottish striker Kenny Miller fired tamely wide from close range.

Millwall: Warner, Lawrence, Nethercott, Phillips, Ryan, Ifill, Roberts, Wise, Reid, Braniff, Claridge. Subs: Gueret, Ward, Bull, Sweeney, Hearn.

Wolverhampton: Murray, Edworthy, Clyde, Lescott, Irwin, Kennedy, Rae, Ince, Cooper, Cole, Sturridge. Subs: Oakes, Butler, Cameron, Miller, Ndah.
