Leicester 0-0 Sheffield Utd

Leicester had to settle for a point after failing to break down a stubborn Sheffield United side at the Walkers Stadium.

Despite improving in the second half the hosts failed to find a way past Paddy Kenny.

And it was the visitors who came closest to clinching the points when Steve Kabba rattled the upright after just seven minutes.

Dean Windass had the first chance of the game but his 25-yard free-kick flew over the crossbar while Paul Dickov was the first try his luck for the hosts.

Impressive start

The Foxes almost went behind after seven minutes when the pacy Kabba cut inside and fired a shot against the woodwork.

Shortly after that the experienced midfielder Stuart McCall failed to hit the target with a right-foot effort from distance.

The Blades continued to look impressive in the early stages and Windass prodded the ball wide from close range after 13 minutes.

Leicester failed to seriously test visiting goalkeeper Kenny in the opening half hour before Billy McKinlay finally brought him to life with a right-foot shot from the edge of the area.

Tactical switch

Five minutes before the break Adams hauled off Trevor Benjamin and replaced him with Nicky Summerbee in what appeared to be a tactical switch.

Scotland international Dickov almost broke the deadlock against the run of play after 43 minutes when his low shot was saved by Kenny with his feet.

Summerbee headed wide just a minute after the interval before Kenny saved Gerry Taggert's effort following a corner.

The defender went close again after 49 minutes as Leicester surged forward looking for the breakthrough.

Scowcroft twice tried his luck and McKinlay volleyed wide from just outside the area as the home team began to dictate proceedings.

Muzzy Izzet headed over from the centre of the area after 79 minutes and Dickov had a late shot saved by Kenny but the high-flying Foxes failed to break the deadlock.

Leicester: Walker, Sinclair, Elliott, Taggart, Rogers, McKinlay, Izzet, Davidson, Scowcroft, Dickov, Benjamin. Subs: Impey, Heath, Stewart, Summerbee, Flowers.

Sheff Utd: Kenny, Jagielka, Page, Murphy, Harley, Brown, McCall, Tonge, Ndlovu, Windass, Kabba. Subs: Allison, McGovern, Asaba, Kozluk, Montgomery.
