Ipswich 1-2 Rotherham

Richard Barker's superb 18-yard strike on the stroke of half-time gave Rotherham all three points in an entertaining clash at Portman Road.

Fabian Wilnis put Ipswich ahead in the 11th minute before Stewart Talbot equalised with a powerful header midway through the first half.

Barker then scored the decisive second goal for Ronnie Moore's team with just seconds of the half remaining.

Ipswich made a positive start and Matt Holland and Hermann Hreidarsson both came close.

Wilnis then fired the home side ahead two minutes later when he unleashed a 20-yard volley which flew into the top left corner of Pollitt's goal.

Darren Bent and Jim Magilton both went close for Ipswich but they were left to rue those missed opportunities as Talbot equalised for Rotherham in the 24th minute.

John Mullin whipped over a corner and Talbot climbed above the Ipswich defence to power home a header.

Rotherham should have gone ahead when Chris Sedgwick directed his shot wide from six yards in the 35th minute.

But Barker deservedly gave them the lead with his fierce right-foot shot in the last minute of the half.

Neither side was able to create any real openings at the start of the second period.

Manager Joe Royle replaced Mark Venus with Darren Ambrose in the 57th minute and the substitute began to cause problems for the South Yorkshire club.

The Tractor Boys piled on the pressure in the latter stages of the game but gutsy Rotherham held on for the win.

Ipswich: Gerrard, Wilnis, McGreal, Gaardsoe, Venus, Hreidarsson, Magilton, Holland, Clapham, Darren Bent, Counago. Subs: Marshall, Wright, Naylor, Ambrose, Armstrong.

Rotherham: Pollitt, Sedgwick, Swailes, Scott, McIntosh, Hurst, Mullin, Daws, Talbot, Lee, Richard Barker. Subs: Gray, Byfield, Warne, Monkhouse, Beech.
