Derby 3-0 Watford

Lee Morris, Chris Riggott and Deon Burton scored as Derby brushed aside Watford at Pride Park.

The match was played in front of 21,653 - the lowest ever league crowd at Pride Park.

But the home fans were soon cheering when Morris scored from the first attack of the match.

A corner from Craig Burley was headed on by Steve Elliott for Morris to smash home.

Watford should have equalised but Marcus Gayle headed Neal Ardley's free-kick straight at Lee Grant.

And Grant was in action again later in the half as he clutched onto Heidar Helguson's close-range header.

But the home team held onto their slim advantage for the remainder of the half - and almost extended their advantage within two minutes of the restart.

Elliott again connected with a Burley free-kick but goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain was this time equal to his header.

Burton, who handed in a transfer request to Derby this week, could have made it 2-0 only to fire over the crossbar.

But after 61 minutes his side did extend their advantage.

Burley provided the assist, sending the ball over for Riggott to head high into the net.

Derby soon added a third, the influential Burley passing for Burton to smash the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Watford could not handle Burley's superb deliveries and Elliott was almost a worthy addition to the scoresheet 12 minutes from time but he headed just over.

Derby: Grant, Riggott, Elliott, Higginbotham, Barton, Lee, Burley, Boertien, Christie, Burton, Morris. Subs: Oakes, Kinkladze, Evatt, Bolder, McLeod.

Watford: Chamberlain, Doyley, Cox, Gayle, Ardley, Hyde, Hand, Robinson, Pennant, Tommy Smith, Helguson. Subs: Lee, Glass, Mahon, McNamee, Foley.

Referee: M Jones (Cheshire).
