Nottingham Forest 3-0 Sheff Utd

Nottingham Forest stretched their unbeaten run to nine games as striker Jack Lester produced an inspired second-half performance to destroy Sheffield United at the City Ground.

Lester, playing against his home-town club, scored twice and had a hand in the third as in-form Forest leapfrogged United among the Division One pacesetters.

Forest broke the deadlock after 54 minutes when Lester darted in to convert Riccardo Scimeca's cross.

They were two up seven minutes later when Marlon Harewood flicked the ball on for Lester to curl a superb 18-yard shot past United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.

And two minutes later Lester fed David Johnson down the right and his square ball across the six-yard box was tucked away by the unmarked Harewood.

It was a devastating spell from Forest - who began the day in sixth place, with United fifth - and was well-deserved after they had dominated the first half without being able to break down a resolute United defence.

It was not all one-way traffic. United, however, were largely restricted to long-range efforts, with Michael Tonge and Carl Asaba testing Darren Ward in the Forest goal.

Nottm Forest: Ward, Louis-Jean, Dawson, Walker, Brennan, Williams, Scimeca, Prutton, Lester, Harewood, Johnson.
Subs: Jess, Roche, Hjelde, Doig, Westcarr.

Sheff Utd: Kenny, Jagielka, Murphy, Page, Montgomery, McCall, McGovern, Brown, Tonge, Allison, Asaba.
Subs: Harley, Yates, Ndlovu, Peschisolido, Ten Heuvel.

Referee: K Hill (Hertfordshire).
