Wolves 4-0 Preston

Wolves ended their three-game losing streak by thrashing Preston at Molineux.

The home team led 2-0 at the break, Dean Sturridge's goal on the stroke of the interval following Nathan Blake's opener.

And two goals in the space of a minute close to full time from Blake and substitute Kenny Miller merely underlined the home team's superiority.

Blake gave Wolves the advantage courtesy of a fine strike midway through the first half.

A well-weighted through-ball from Alex Rae set the former Blackburn striker free, and he showed commendable composure in beating Tepi Moilanen from the edge of the penalty area.

Sturridge's finishing was no less impressive as the half-time whistle beckoned, meeting Denis Irwin's cross to beat Moilanen with a fierce strike from 18 yards.

Blake tried his luck again shortly after the restart, and Cooper also forced Moilanen into a smart save as Wolves attempted to make sure of the points.

Ricardo Fuller's stinging effort gave Matthew Murray the opportunity to demonstrate his agility in the Wolves goal, but chances were at a premium for the visitors.

Long-distance efforts from Richard Cresswell, Fuller and Broomes were the closest Preston came to opening their account.

And any hopes they had of salvaging something from the game were extinguished when Blake found the bottom corner with another powerful shot.

Miller, on in place of Sturridge, compounded Preston's woes courtesy of a similarly sweet finish with his right foot.
