Redknapp praises 'incredible effort'
Redknapp was delighted with the win
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp praised the incredible efforts of his side after Wimbledon became their seventh successive victim.
The south coast side equalled a club record set in 1983 for straight wins with a 4-1 victory at Fratton Park. They maintained their unbeaten start to the season, stayed three points clear of Leicester at the top of Division One and look primed for a return to the top flight.
"To have taken 25 points from our first 27 is an incredible effort and we now have to make sure that we don't waste our good start," he said. "It was three great points. Wimbledon came here and had a real good go, but we scored two very good goals and I always felt we looked like scoring."
Pompey were aided by a blunder from Dons goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, who repeated the mistake by Aston Villa's Peter Enckelman from Monday night.
Davis failed to control a 25-yard backpass from defender Mark Williams which resulted in Portsmouth's third goal, but Redknapp admitted he had missed the incident. "I didn't really see the third goal because I was looking down field to check our marking and then glanced up to see the ball in the back of their net," he said. "It was an amazing goal but we will take all those bits of luck while we can." Wimbledon boss Stuart Murdoch said his side, who were reduced to 10 men when Williams was sent-off, had suffered an off night. "It was one of those nights when we went from one calamity to another," he said. "We gifted them a goal after two minutes and continued to make too many mistakes. "I don't want to talk about the third goal, it is the sort of thing that Davis will do 100 times perfectly and only miscontrol the ball on the 101st attempt. "It's amazing that it has happened two nights running and I don't think you will see that again this season," added Murdoch. "We came out at half-time still believing that we could get ourselves back into the game but the sending off killed us. "We continued to be positive though and there are a lot of things to take out of the game."
