Leicester 2-1 Reading

Leicester went some way to erasing the memory of last Sunday's drubbing at Ipswich with victory against Reading at the Walkers Stadium.

City raced into a two-goal lead after just five minutes thanks to a Brian Deane goal and a Paul Dickov penalty.

But Foxes midfielder Andy Impey allowed the visitors back into the game from their first significant attack when he gave away a 22nd-minute penalty for Jamie Cureton to blast home.

However, Mickey Adams' injury-ravaged side produced an impressive performance and missed several chances to increase their lead in the second half.

Reading boss Alan Pardew must have feared a backlash after the Foxes' shock 6-1 thrashing at Portman Road - but nobody could have prepared him for the storming opening.

After just three minutes Dickov's header found Deane on the right side of the penalty area and the striker fired home.

And two minutes later Dickov was at the heart of the action again as City doubled their lead.

John Mackie felled the Scottish striker in the area and he got up to convert the spot-kick - ending his run of three games without a goal.

But with Reading struggling to get out of their own half they were given a life-line following Impey's rash challenge on Nicky Forster.

Cureton claimed his fourth goal in as many games when he fired the spot-kick high and straight past Ian Walker.

Dickov nearly extended the Foxes lead immediately after the interval but his long-range effort was spectacularly saved by Whitehead.

And James Scowcroft should have put the game beyond doubt a few minutes later but he headed over from just six yards following Alan Rogers' dangerous cross.

Dickov was a thorn in the visitors' side throughout the game and nearly grabbed his second of the game after 83 minutes, but Whitehead tipped the ball around the post.
