Rotherham 0-0 Preston

Relegation favourites Rotherham remain unbeaten after grinding out a goalless draw against Craig Brown's Preston at Millmoor.

North End have still yet to win a game this season - but boss Brown can be pleased with his team's first clean sheet of the season against a team who scored six against Millwall last week.

The first half was poor but North End came close to breaking the deadlock after 20 minutes when Jamaican Ricardo Fuller hit a fine 18-yard strike which went narrowly wide.

Three minutes later, Rotherham had their first attempt on target after a pin-point John Mullin corner picked out Martin McIntosh, whose header was well gathered by North End keeper Tepi Moilanen.

But after a disappointing opening 45 minutes, the game came to life in the second half and both goalkeepers had to make numerous saves.

Richard Cresswell's six-yard header was brilliantly stopped by Mike Pollitt.

And Pollitt was in the thick of things shortly after as he parried a Colin Murdock header after 51 minutes and then tipped over a Chris Lucketti effort.

But against the run of play, Martin McIntosh almost put Rotherham ahead when his 25-yard free-kick was brilliantly saved by Moilanen.

McIntosh's strike heralded a spirited fightback from the Millers as Ronnie Moore's men edged their way back into the contest.

Chris Sedgwick and McIntosh both went close with speculative long-range strikes before a McIntosh header forced a good save from Moilanen.

Rotherham: Pollitt, Scott, Hurst, Swailes, McIntosh, Mullin, Talbot, Sedgwick, Warne, Byfield, Lee. Subs: Gray, Robins, Richard Barker, Beech, Garner.

Preston: Moilanen, Alexander, Murdock, Edwards, Lucketti, Jackson, Etuhu, Skora, Rankine, Fuller, Cresswell. Subs: Lucas, Healy, Broomes, McKenna, Anderson.

Referee: A Kaye (W Yorkshire).
