Nottm Forest 4-0 Sheff Wed
Riccardo Scimeca
Scimeca scored two goals for Forest

Nottingham Forest inflicted a heavy defeat on 10-man Sheffield Wednesday at the City Ground.

Forest made an early breakthrough with a goal from David Johnson, but they had to withstand a spirited display by the Owls in the first half before wrapping up victory.

Jack Lester netted the all-important second goal two minutes after the interval when he latched onto Johnson's pass to fire home.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men after 57 minutes when Gerald Sibon collected a second yellow card.

Riccardo Scimeca made it three when he volleyed home spectacularly after 68 minutes and he netted his second four minutes later to finish off the visitors.

It was Sibon who had carved out the first chance of the match after two minutes, but his 20-yard effort was blocked by Mathieu Louis-Jean.

Forest responded swiftly by taking the lead.

Marlon Harewood created the opening for Johnson, who drilled the ball home from 18 yards.

Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman had to be on his toes to clear under pressure from Louis-Jean's cross and Shefki Kuqi cleared the subsequent corner from Scimeca.

The visitors had every reason to curse their luck after 16 minutes when Forest keeper Darren Ward somehow denied them a goal.

Sibon let fly with a volley but Ward just got his fingers to the shot to superbly tip the ball over the bar.

Wednesday went even closer to opening their account two minutes later as Beswetherick's corner found Sibon and his close-range header rattled the woodwork.

Forest striker Johnson had another opportunity midway through the half but Pressman parried his left-foot effort.

Sibon was again denied by the impressive Ward who parried a spectacular 30-yard effort before Lester and Scimeca delivered after the interval.
