Grimsby 1-2 Derby

Derby bounced back from their midweek defeat at Gillingham by coming from behind to beat brave Grimsby at Blundell Park.

Darren Barnard - scoring his first goal for the Mariners - had given his team the lead.

But the Rams restored parity before half-time through Adam Bolder - and the youngster scored his team's winner with 15 minutes left.

The first half was marred by a serious injury to Grimsby's Steve Livingstone, who suffered a head injury following an aerial challenge with Danny Higgingbottom.

  Key moments
37 mins: Barnard scores for Grimsby
43 mins: Bolder scores for Derby
75 mins: Bolder scores again
Livingstone was knocked unconscious with blood dripping from his head and eventually stretchered from the field before being taken to hospital for a precautionary scan.

Grimsby took the lead after 37 minutes following a goalkeeping error by Mart Poom.

The Estonia international - under no real pressure - charged out of his area but failed to collect a speculative cross and Barnard lofted the ball into an empty net from 30 yards.

However, two minutes later Derby were level when Bolder headed home from short range.

Derby should have gone into the half-time interval leading but Ravanelli missed two excellent scoring opportunities.

Clean through on goal, his touch was extremely heavy and the ball ran away from him into goalkeeper Danny Coyne's arms.

A minute later he hit his shot straight at Coyne from short range.

Ravanelli started the second half in similar vein, blasting a volley over the crossbar when completely unmarked.

The Italian striker was again guilty of profligate finishing when he stabbed the ball wide after 68 minutes.

Derby eventually made the pressure tell with a goal after 74 minutes.

Lee Morris's initial effort after cutting in from the right was parried by Coyne.

But the ball eventually broke to Bolder, who shot home through a congested penalty area for his second goal of the match.

Grimsby continued to push forward and Terry Cooke went close with a shot from the edge of the area, while Phil Jevons put the ball in the net but the goal was rightly ruled out for handball.
