Brighton 0-2 Norwich

Goals from Paul McVeigh and Clint Easton helped Norwich to a 2-0 victory over Brighton at the Withdean Stadium.

The victory also ensured that the Canaries' unbeaten start to the season continued, with Nigel Worthington's team now having taken seven points from a possible nine.

Norwich had the better of a first half which saw Brighton lose top scorer Bobby Zamora with a knee injury.

And it came as no surprise when the Canaries took the lead on 58 minutes.

Northern Ireland international McVeigh, who grabbed a double in the opening-day thrashing of Grimsby, had the simplest of headers to break the deadlock.

Brighton goalkeeper Michel Kuipers made a sensational save to keep out Iwan Roberts' close-range header from Phil Mulryne's cross, but McVeigh was on hand to follow up.

Norwich stretched their lead nine minutes later thanks to a fantastic volley from Easton.

Again Mulryne was the architect as his cross found Easton, and the former Watford midfielder struck a stunning 18-yard volley past the helpless Kuipers.

The Canaries so nearly made it 3-0 a minute later, but substitute Alex Notman was denied by a fine save from Kuipers.

The afternoon might have taken a different course had Zamora properly connected with Paul Watson's 18th minute cross.

But the striker did not make a decent contact and Rob Green easily saved.

Norwich dominated large chunks of the remainder of the match, while Martin Hinshelwood's team found scoring opportunities few and far between.

Brighton: Kuipers, Watson, Mayo, Cullip, Pethick, Hart, Oatway, Brooker, Carpenter, Wilkinson, Zamora. Subs: Marney, Hammond, Hinshelwood, Harding, Petterson.

Norwich: Green, Kenton, Drury, Fleming, Nedergaard, Mulryne, Holt, Easton, Rivers, Roberts, McVeigh. Subs: Nielsen, Notman, Heckingbottom, Russell, Crichton.

Referee: D Gallagher (Oxfordshire).
