Stockport produced a stirring performance against Bradford to clinch their first win in 19 games but it looks too be to little too late for the relegation certainties.

Luke Beckett hit the only goal in the 10th mintute as County claimed only their third league success of the season.

The win also completed a unique double over the Bantams by the First Division basement side.

Beckett, sent off against Sheffield United on Saturday, bounced back with the crucial goal.

Teenager Fraser McLachlan, on his home debut, played a long ball over the top and Beckett held off two defenders to poke the ball home with his left foot.

In the 29th minute, Ashley Ward linked up well with Danny Cadamarteri, but Ward's snap shot was well saved low down by Andy Dibble.

Bradford had another let-off just after the break when keeper Alan Combe missed Jon Daly's looping header and the ball bounced back off the post.

The home fans could still not relax with the points in the balance and Dibble did well to tip over a header from Cadamarteri.

Ward had a shot deflected narrowly wide in the 83rd minute as the Hatters withstood a late City onslaught to finish the game with the three points.
