Rotherham were denied victory by the width of a post, as they held promotion hopefuls Norwich to a goalless draw at Carrow Road.

Richard Barker's second-half strike came back off the woodwork and was scrambled clear by the grateful Caneries defence.

Both teams lacked a cutting edge throughout the game and they squandered numerous chances on a frustrating night.

Norwich made a confident start and Darren Kenton went close with a fierce 25-yard drive in the sixth minute.

Malky Mackay should have opened the scoring with a close-range header before both sides wasted gilt-edged opportunities.

In the space of four action-packed minutes City's Phil Mulryne found David Neilsen in space, but the striker failed to hit the target.

Meanwhile Rotherham striker Paul Warne surged forward before unleashing a shot which flew inches wide.

In a real see-saw second half, Norwich refused to sit back and efforts from Mark Rivers and Trevor Benjamin flew just wide of the target.

But the deadlock could not be broken as both sides created and missed several more chances and had to settle for a frustrating point.
