Stockport ended their dismal run of 11 straight defeats - and they had player-boss Carlton Palmer to thank for their first point since mid-November.

The former Coventry midfielder shrugged off a bloodied nose and an arm injury to keep out the home side with a stubborn performance at the heart of County's defence.

At the final whistle, the delighted Stockport players rushed over to celebrate their draw with the handful of Hatters fans who had made the trip to Highfield Road.

The best chances in a scrappy game fell to the home side, but they failed to convert any of them.

David Thompson's 25-yard shot struck the base of Andy Dibble's right-hand post in the first minute.

Then Laurent Delorge fired over the top before Dibble dived full stretch to deny Lee Mills.

Stockport almost snatched an unlikely win with two minutes left when Coventry keeper Magnus Hedman kept out Jonathan Daly's effort with his legs.
