Burnley made it six straight wins to increase their lead at the top of Division One to seven points.

But they were made to fight all the way by bottom-of-the-table Stockport.

When Glen Little fired home an eighth-minute penalty after Damien Delaney had fouled Gareth Taylor it looked as though a straightforward afternoon was in prospect.

But Stockport had other ideas and were level two minutes later thanks to a diving header from Gary McSheffrey.

Stockport keeper Lee Jones made a couple of important saves from Little and Taylor.

But County missed even better chances early in the second half when Shefki Kuqi allowed Nik Michopoulos to make a point-blank save and Kevin Ellison sliced the rebound wide.

County were made to pay when Taylor headed home his ninth goal of the season from a Little cross midway through the second half.

Five minutes later Little was again in the thick of the action, supplying the pass from which Ian Moore sidefooted home at the near post.

County kept fighting and their efforts were rewarded in injury-time, Kuqi converting a penalty after Ian Cox had handled.

Burnley were unconvincing but they now have an impressive lead at the top of the table.

But Stockport continue to look relegation in the face.
