Millwall 1-2 Gillingham

Guy Ipoua and Marlon King clinched a late victory for Gillingham in the Lion's Den - despite the Gills going behind to a Tim Cahill header.

Having dropped just five points there all season, Millwall had made the Den the toughest place to travel in the league.

But that all ended as first Ipoua, then King pulled off a memorable victory for their local rivals.

Millwall had gone ahead as Cahill's brave diving header appeared to have sent the game running to a familiar script on 69 minutes.

But with seven minutes left the Gills staged an unlikely comeback, with Ipoua making sure as he converted Simon Osbourn's crossed shot after King had failed to make meaningful contact.

Shortly afterwards Steven Reid had the chance to restore the lead, teeing up with all the time in the world but crashing his shot against the bar.

Wasted chances

And with that, the match was lost as King got on to the end of Osbourn's cross to slam home from nine yards.

The opportunity did come for the Lions to make their mark as Reid's cross was delivered tantalisingly into the box.

Had one of Cahill, Richard Sadlier or Steve Claridge got a touch rather than all three, Vince Bartram's acrobatic efforts to scramble the ball over may all have been academic.

Bartram was nowhere to be seen though as Millwall again went close, this time through Stuart Nethercott whose goalbound header was cleared off the line by Chris Hope.

Millwall: Warner, Green, Dyche, Nethercott, Ryan, Reid, Cahill, Livermore, Ifill, Claridge, Sadlier. Subs: Gueret, Ward, Bircham, Bull, May.

Gillingham: Bartram, Nosworthy, Ashby, Hope, Perpetuini, Ipoua, Smith, Browning, Osborn, King, Onuora. Subs: Patterson, Butters, Shaw, Saunders, Samuel.

Referee: M Brandwood (Lichfield).
