Highlights - Ipswich 1-3 Nott'm Forest

Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest ended their 10-hour goal drought to beat Ipswich at Portman Road.

Marcus Tudgay put Forest ahead from a tight angle inside the area early on and Garath McCleary's 25-yard strike into the top corner doubled their lead.

A Grant Leadbitter penalty pulled one back for Ipswich before Tudgay headed in from Andy Reid's cross.

Forest had failed to score in seven Championship games since the reverse fixture with Ipswich on 19 November.

Before the Ipswich win, Nottingham Forest had picked up one point out of 21 in the seven games they had failed to score in.

The result was not enough to lift Forest out of the relegation zone, but it moved them level on points with 21st-placed Bristol City.

Ipswich, who have now lost five of their last six home matches in the league, are now 19th, three points clear of the bottom three.

Forest started brightly and Tudgay could have put them ahead before his fifth-minute strike, putting the ball over the bar when one-on-one with goalkeeper Arran Lee-Barrett.

Forest should have put the game beyond doubt at the start of the second half, with Reid and Lewis McGugan missing chances.

Greg Cunningham tripped Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the area, and Leadbitter levelled from the spot, despite his penalty striking both posts before crossing the line.

But any hope for Town was short-lived as Tudgay scored his second goal of the game.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell: "It was hugely disappointing and some of our defending was calamitous. We were always susceptible. Every time the ball went in our box there was blind panic.

"Forest's goals were great finishes but we shot ourselves in the foot.

"Some of the things our defenders had to do should have been meat and drink, but for some reason that wasn't the case.

"I'm struggling to explain some of the individual errors from experienced players.

"We missed Ibrahima Sonko, who's been a big plus for us, but we looked very nervous and shaky.

"We created more chances than we did in other recent home games, but we can't keep conceding goals like that.

"Some of the defending was embarrassing and we've got to do better. "We can't seem to get any momentum at home."

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cotterill: "If you look at our recent performances, that result has been coming.

"It's taken too long, but we've been playing very well. We've had a problem getting the ball over the line, but our football has been fantastic.

"And if we can go on a good run, we'll comfortably get ourselves out of this.

"I thought it was deserved. We've probably played better and lost in the last few weeks, but there hasn't been a lot wrong and the goals we scored were outstanding.

"And we did it without nine players who would normally be in our 16. We've had such big injuries and huge losses at our football club and it's also very difficult playing twice in three days."
