Gareth Taylor and Paul Cook scored to put Sheffield United further in trouble in Division One.

Burnley were value for their first win in three attempts but United boss Neil Warnock must be getting concerned about his off-key side.

We are getting to the stage where it's easier to sit back and just feel sorry for yourselves
Neil Warnock, Sheffield United manager

Taylor scored his fifth goal of the season in the first-half to put his former club on their way to defeat.

A sweet, flowing move down the left ended with a perfectly delivered cross from Lee Briscoe being struck home by the diving Taylor.

Michael Brown, easily the most impressive player for the visitors, almost equalised within seconds, but his shot on the run bounced back off the base of a post.

It was a well deserved and an important win
Stan Ternent, Burnley manager

Burnley then grabbed the crucial second goal. Veteran midfielder Paul Cook's speculative shot caught a wicked deflection to fool Simon Tracey.

The second half was something of a non-event.

Burnley's best player, Glen Little, twice went close to adding a third.

First he saw a header fly wide and then, after jinking past two defenders, watched in disbelief as his shot slipped through Tracey's hands before rolling along the line to safety.
