Managerless Birmingham were held to a draw at St Andrew's by Rotherham.

The visitors took the lead after 16 minutes when ex-Aston Villa striker Alan Lee headed home from John Mullin's free-kick.

But two goals in six minutes either side of half-time from Michael Johnson and Geoff Horsfield put Birmingham in the driving seat.

Johnson bundled the ball home from a corner on the stroke of half-time.

Then Horsfield delighted the biggest 28,436- strong crowd - the biggest of the season at St Andrew's - by shooting Birmingham into the lead.

But minutes later, after Rotherham were awarded a hotly disputed corner, Swailes rose above a static Birmingham defence to head home Rotherham's equaliser.

Birmingham: Vaesen, Eaden, Purse, Michael Johnson, Grainger, Sonner, O'Connor, Woodhouse, Lazaridis, Horsfield, Andrew Johnson. Subs: Bennett, Luntala, Burrows, Hutchinson, Ferrari.

Rotherham: Pollitt, Scott, Swailes, Branston, Hurst, Sedgwick, Mullin, Talbot, Monkhouse, Lee, Robins. Subs: Gray, Richard Barker, Daws, Beech, Warne.

Referee: P Dowd (Stoke-on-Trent).
