Rosler comes to Albion's aid
Oliver Dacourt and Uwe Rosler battle for the ball earlier in the season

West Bromwich Albion have signed Southampton's Uwe Rosler on loan.

The 32-year-old striker has made just five appearances this season but could go straight into Gary Megson's starting XI against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The move, and Rosler's immediate elevation to the first team, come as a result of the injury Scott Dobie suffered in the Black Country derby against Wolves last Thursday.

The signing also signals the end of the club's interest in Sunderland's Danny Dichio.

Discussion dead-end

Albion have been unable to agree either a fee with Sunderland for Dichio, or personal terms with the player, who impressed on loan earlier in the season.

The Baggies recently increased their original offer of 750,000 to meet what they claimed was the Premiership club's asking price of around 1m.

"I have spoken to Sunderland chairman Bob Murray and, as a result of that conversation, it is not possible for West Bromwich Albion to sign Danny Dichio," chairman Paul Thompson confirmed.

"The price has gone up again from what we believed was acceptable to Sunderland and therefore we will not be signing the player."

"We discussed wages with Danny's representative and, based on that discussion, it is not possible for us to agree terms with the player," he added.

  • West Brom's local derby against Coventry, scheduled for Sunday 11 November, has been postponed due to international call ups.
