Preston 3-0 Sheff Utd

Dynamic strike duo Jon Macken and David Healy kept the Preston bandwagon rolling against a poor Sheffield United.

After seven minutes, skipper Sean Gregan supplied a looping cross and the in-form striker beat the offside trap to complete the move with an sharp close-range header.

After 17 minutes, United's Michael Brown tried to hit the mark, only to see his effort booted off the line.

That seemed to fire Preston into greater determination and on the half-hour mark transfer-listed Macken exposed more leaks in the Sheffield defence.

We were a bit hung over from last season and did not get off to the best of starts this season
Preston's Lee Cartwright

He had time to power a shot from just outside the 18-yard area. The strike was parried by Tracey, but only for David Healy to steal in and make it 2-0.

United later found the heart to take more of the game to their opponents.

They put together some neat moves, yielding a number of corners, but with nothing to show for their efforts.

Macken and Healy might have come up trumps again after 74 minutes when they combined, but Tracey was not going to be beaten by a Healy drive.

It's no good feeling sorry for yourself. There's a lot worse off than us
Blades boss Neil Warnock

Winger Paul McKenna tried to get in on the scoring act, but Terry Phelan mopped up at the back, booting away the danger.

Substitute Kevin Gallacher crowned the victory, tapping home on 87 minutes after Richard Cresswell struck the post.
