Burnley 4-0 Ipswich

Burnley 4-0 Ipswich

Ipswich suffered a sixth straight defeat as goals from Sam Vokes, Jay Rodriguez and a Chris McCann brace saw them thumped at Burnley.

Loanee Vokes gave the Clarets the lead when he glanced in a header from a Keith Treacy corner.

Clarets captain McCann tapped in a Junior Stanislas cross just before the break and rifled home a second after good work by Treacy down the right.

And Rodriguez blasted in a fourth as the Clarets earned back-to-back wins.

Did you know?

Ipswich now have the longest losing sequence by any club in the Championship this season

The victory was nothing more than the Lancashire side deserved with 24 attempts to Town's two, with keeper Lee Grant barely troubled as he kept Burnley's first clean sheet in 10 games.

The home side were on the front foot from the start with Rodriguez denied by Arran Lee-Barrett and Treacy firing wide, before Vokes gave them the lead with his first goal since signing on loan from Wolves.

The Clarets doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Stanislas jinked his way through the Ipswich defence to tee up McCann to tap past Lee-Barrett.

The skipper grabbed his second when he latched onto the end of a Treacy pass to slot home, before Rodriguez had the final say when he thundered in a left-foot strike into the top corner to give manager Eddie Howe all three points on his 34th birthday.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Burnley manager Eddie Howe:

"The second half was enjoyable. I don't think I've had many second halves here at Turf Moor in my short reign that have been as enjoyable as that. I thought we were excellent.

"It was a strange game in the fact that we created so many chances. I think we could have probably scored double the four that we did.

"Jay Rodriguez had chance after chance and to be fair to him he kept going and got the reward for an excellent individual performance.

"But what pleases me more is the team effort. We were really good in the second half."

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell:

"I feel physically sick. There's a lot of people with big reputations in that changing room. People keep on telling us what an experienced team and what good players we've got.

"They can all talk the talk but at the minute they're not doing it.

"It's unacceptable. I'm embarrassed walking past those supporters of ours who've travelled all that way to watch absolute garbage.

"Ultimately it's my responsibility and some of the stuff that is going on in there is not what we've been preaching. In fact, none of it is."
